Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): McCulloch Weed Eater, weed eater, starter fluid

Question
A friend gave me a weed eater and it will not crank.  I don't know about small engine repair and was trying to see if it was worth trying to repair.  I pulled the plug and cleaned it.  Put in new fuel.  When I tried to crank it the end turned - it that normal?

Answer
 Hello CJ:

Depending on the Model; Yes. Some Weedeaters have Clutches and Others Dont. Depending on How Long the Unit has Set, you May need to Clean and Overhaul the Carburator. Have Someone Spray a Small Amount of Starter Fluid Into the Carburator While you try to Start the Unit. If it Starts and Quits, then The Carburator is the Problem. Also Remove the Muffler and Inspect the Exhaust Port for Carbon Build up. Check the Muffler and the Spark Arrestor Screen in the Muffler for Carbon Build up. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
