Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S Starter Cord broken & Loud poping sound when pulling the cord, starter cord, homedepot

Hi, I have the below lawn mower:
PowerPro, Quantum 5.5HP, Front Wheel Drive
American Yard Products, Model RBSP2255A
There are 2 problems:
1) The starter cord is broken. I already bought the part from HomeDepot.  How can I replace the broken cord ? I'm looking for the service manual on the internet but can't find it.
2) When I pull the starter cord, sometimes it makes a loud poping sound.  I think in the past I may have over-filled the oil or tilted the lawn-mower in the wrong direction. Now I know the airfilter & carburator should facing down when tilting the lawn mower.  How can I fix the problem ? Clean or replace the carburator ?
How can I get a copy of the service manual ?

Briggs dealers sell manuals or you can find them on e-bay.

You can remove the carburetor float bowl nut located on the bottom of the carburetor to drain the carb.  I would remove the spark plug and pull the string several times to remove oil from the cylinder.

Let me know if this helps.  By the way, if you need to tilt the mower it is better to tilt it with the spark plug hole facing up.
