Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn mower not charging, stratton ranch, briggs and stratton

I have a 14.5 briggs and stratton ranch king rider by mtd. The problem is that it doesn't charge. If I jump it it will take right off but it won't start on it's own. someone suggested it could be the diode or voltage regulator but i don't know what a diode is and i don't see a voltage regulator. Please help me!

 Hello Craig:

 I Require the Model Number off of the Engine Please. However, If you Dont have a Regulator in the Charging System, then the Problem is the Stator Ring Under the Flywheel. It has a Built in Regulator/Diode. The Diode isnt Replaceable on the Built in Regulated Stators. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.
