Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): BRIGGS & STRATTON 14 DUAL CAST IRON CYL, briggs stratton, carberator

Question
I have a 1986 Craftman 14hp twin cylinder briggs & stratton riding lawn mower (engine model #400700). I took the motor apart due to a burn't  exhaust valve guide. I had a valve guide installed + valve job done at a machine shop . I run Amsoil syntheyic motor oil. I hade the cylinders checked but all that was needed was honing. Also new rings were installed. The problem is that I cannot get gas to be pumped into the carberator. I can pour gas in and the engine runs fine. The carberator has been rebuilt + I have good compression on both cylinders.    I have even put a hand held vaccum pump on the vaccum side of the pump but still do not get gas. The gas lines + fuel filter have been replaced, The gas tank has been removed and flushed. I had a friend put the motor together but 1 valve was open when piston was at top dead center. He said that he aligned the timing marks up. Please assist if you have any clues to what is going on.

Answer
 Hello Raymond:

You say it Runs Good when Pouring Gas into the Carb. Is Fuel Getting to the Carb? Use Low Air Pressure and Blow Air into the Tank while holding a Rag over the Fill Port to Pressurize the Gas Tank. This will Push The Gas thru the Lines. If Gas Is coming out of the Line at the Carb Pump, then Replace the Lines and Try to Start the Engine While you Keep Air Pressure in the Tank. The Fuel Pump may need Priming. This will Prime the Carb Pump. I have had Several of these and they All have Required Priming after the Carb Pump was Rebuilt. If this Doesnt Cure the Problem, then Check and Make Sure the Carb Pump is Assembled Correctly. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
