Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pin valve(?) on old Tecumseh/Lawson engine, hp engine, diaphram

Question
Ref: Tecumseh P/N 631839 which contains replacement arts for old Tecumseh/Lawson 5.5 HP engine
Apparently, this replacement kit contains a universal pin type valve which is very long. when trying to assemble the diaphram in the kit, the pin valve remains open - so, I guess that I have to cut it off.
How do I determine the correct length for this valve? Even with the diaphram mounting surface, above the mounting surface or?
I can't find any info from Tecumseh on how to do this.
Thank you for any help you can provide

Answer
Hi Don,

I have never run across a valve that required altering.   If you do want to try to make it work, I would start long and shorten as needed.  Unless the valve stops the fuel from flooding the carb, I would first try it as is.

Let me know how you make out.
