Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower wiring, coil wire, kill switch

ok i am taking a 19.5 briggs off a craftsman lawnmower to make a go kart my question is i have a blue,orange,and black wire coming out of the engine a large ground to the frame and a large power wire from the coil to the starter then to the battery how do i hook up a push button start the right way?

Hi John,

You will need to run a wire from the large solenoid terminal, (where the positive battery wire connects) to the new switch, then back to the small terminal on the solenoid.  When battery power is applied to the small solenoid terminal, it activates and sends battery power to the starter.  The wires from the engine should be for ground, charging and the ignition coil.  Run the coil wire through a kill switch to shut the engine off.
