Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower tranmission, transaxles, running order

Old Task Force (MTD) 38" 12.5 hp mower that I have kept in good running order but have always been hesitant about any maintenance on the transmission. No problems but would like to make sure it stays lubed. I don't want to take it apart and have springs and gears all over the garage. Easy/hard? and what do you recommend to lube it with.

 Hello George:

 Most Transaxles are Not Serviceable by Homeowners. If it Isnt Leaking it will be Fine. Its a Fairly Big and Complicated Job. If you see a Leak and want to Replace some Lost Oil; then Remove the Shifter and Put the Oil in through there. Be Careful and DONT Over Fill the Transaxle. Hope this Helps.
