Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine not powering up, throttle shaft, gasket kit

Question
i have any 18hp brigges and it seems ro just run at half power.i have put new gasket kit in carb and changed the plugs  thanks Raymond

Answer
 Hello Raymond:

This could be a couple of things. 1- With Engine Running; Carefully loosen the Oil Fill Cap. Does the Engine Speed Increase? If Yes, then The Crankcase Vent is Not Working or a Ring is Cracked. Either of these will Allow Compression Into the Crankcase. This Extra Pressure causes the Power Loss. 2- The Carb Air/Fuel Screw Settings Are Wrong. Take a Piece of Wire about 12 to 18" Long and Attach it ti the Governor Control Arm so as to be Able to Pull on the Governor Control Arm. With the Engine Running. Turn the Main Jet Screw In Slightly while you Rev the Engine. If this Setting is Off, the Engine Will Start to Run Better and Have more Power. You Control the Engine Revs with the Wire. About 1/4 to 1/2 a Turn should be Enough to Bring the Engine to Power. 3- The Throttle Control Cable has Slipped in the Retainer Clamp. Readjust the Throttle Cable. 4- The Throttle Control Spring has Gotten Stretched. This is the Spring from the Control Arm to the Throttle Control Bracket on the Side of the Engine. This Spring Pulls on the Control Arm which is Linked to the Throttle Shaft Plate on the Carb and Speeds the Engine Up but Allows the Control Arm to Pull the Spring when Governed Speed is Reached. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
