Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Fuel leaking from exhaust, fuel tank, murry

Question
I have a murry 42" riding mower. My son went out to start it up for the first time in about 2 months. He called and told me there was gas leaking from the exhaust. I did notice the other day a strong gas smell in the garage. What could cause this and how to fix?

Answer
 Hello Layne:

1- Check the Fill Cap on the Fuel Tank. If not Venting Properly, the Pressure Builds and Pushes Gas Past the Carb Float Needle. The Carb Floods Gas into the Cylinder and out the Exhaust, if that Valve Happens to be Open. If no Valves are Open, then the Gas Fills up the Cylinder and you get Hydrolock. Check the Oil for Gas Smell. If it Smells of Gas Change it. If the Cap is Good, then The Carb should be Overhauled. There is Trash causing the Needle not to Seat Properly and that is Causing the Flooding. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
