Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): small engine repair, stablizer, single mom

Question
I have a TORO GTS 22' Recycler self propeled drive mower that has always started fine until today. I put gas in it that I'm pretty sure had water in it. It stared once and smoked really bad and died, so I drained the gas out and added some stablizer but it still won't start. Got any suggestions? I'm a single Mom and don't really have the money to take to someone for service and I've always been able to figure things out to fix them myself but this lawn mower has me stumped! The air filter and spark plug looks o kay but? Is there anything I can I do if I get into the carb?
Thanks for your time!  Renee'

Answer
Hiya Renee!

You need to remove the little bowl-like object mounted underneath the carburator, it'll trap the water and prevent the engine from getting proper gas.

There is a single large nut holding it on.  Viewed from underneath, it must be turned counterclockwise.  Once loose, the water should drain out.  Watch the liquid coming out, when it all looks like gas, close it back up, remove and clean the plug and fire it back up.  It may still smoke a bit but it'll clear up quickly.

Good Luck!

Lemme know how this goes for ya ok?
