Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Carberator Leaking Gas, ok cya, silver bowl

Question
Hi,

I just got a tiller from my Father in Law.  Has a B&G Quantum 5HP  1995  Just a few hours on the engine.  It has sat covered for 8 years unused.  I filled up the fuel tank and gas is just pouring out of the carb.  1/2 the fuel tank empty in about 10 minutes.

I opened and closed the throttle several times to try and get parts in the intake moving.  Didn't stop the leak.

Any ideas what might be happening?

Answer
Hiya Wade.
You have a float/needle valve issue.
Theres a small silver bowl at the bottom of the carburator.  A large nut or a fuel cutoff solenoid holds it on.  Both unscrew.  Drop the bowl, see if the float or needle is stuck.  A can of carb cleaner can really help right here, flush out everything.  Try it again.  If it still leaks out, you'll have to replace the needle and its little seat- thats a different story so lemme know how this goes first ok?
