Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Broken pull cord and hard start, spring cap, screw driver

Question
John,
It is a vertical pull. There are 2 model #'s - not sure why. One is on the outer fins of the cylinder head and it is: model D5036, Ser no. 219197 and the other is on the deck of the machine and it is model 117 248 503, ser no 852712. The model no. engraving on the deck is a bit faded so I am not sure I have read it right.
Hope that helps and thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
Tom

Question -
I was having difficulty starting my 20 year old lawn boy a few weeks back and the pull cord snapped. I have been unable to figure out how to re-attach it. Any tips you could give me would be great.
Also, I had heard that the hard start problem could carberator related. Is there a simple way to clean it?

Thanks.

Answer -
 Hello Tom:

I need the Model Please. Is this a Vertical Pull Starter or a Horizontal Pull.

Answer
 Hello Tom:

Remove the Blower Housing (engine Cover). When you Look at the Starter now you will see it is mounted on a Pin into the Engine Block. Find the Allen Lock Bolt and Loosen/Remove. Once Loosened/Removed the Starter Housing will Pull out from the Block. The Spring Cap will Pop Off with a Small Screw Driver. The Numders on the Engine are the Engine Model Numbers. The Ones on the Deck are the Deck Model Numbers. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
