Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Weedwacker, line tank, safety wire

Question
Hi John, I have a craftsman gasoline weedwacker model No. C944.517360. I don't know how that happened, but two little plastic hoses going in and out of fuel tank are ripped out. One is thicker then the other. It looks like they both didn't go too deep into the tank. Just about 3/16 or so. I found them in the Operator's Manual as a part No. 62(fuel line-carb/purge) and 63 (fuel line-tank/purge), but there are no details about how long they should be or what is the exact purpose of each of these lines. I would guess at least one should go all the way to very bottom of the fuel tank. My question(s) to You is:          How long these lines should be, and do they have any clip or stopper on them to hold them in to prevent any movements out of tank?
Which one is IN-line and which is OUT-line?
And what would be the best place to purchase these fuel-lines?                            Thank You for Your help Dave.

Answer
 Hello Dave:

The Large Line is a Return Line and the Small Line is the Fuel Supply Line. They go abount 1/4" into the Tank. The Supply Line has a Connector inside the Tank that hooks to another short line that has the Filter at the End Of it. Buy Extra Length for the Supply Line. Take a piece of Safety Wire and Use it to Pull the Line Into the Tank and Out the Fill Opening. There should be Enough Line to Stick out the Small Opening that Leads to the Carb. Attach the Short Filter Extension Line and then Pull the Line and Filter back into the Tank ubtil the Filter is Sitting on the Bottom of the Tank about 1/2" from the Fill Cap Opening. Cut the Line to Fit. The Return Line goes only about 1/4" into the Tank and there is Nothing on the End. It is Open inside the Tank. The Fuel Supply Line needs to be about 14 to 16" Long and the Return is about 6 to 8" Long. Take Measurements from your Old Return Line. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
