Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman wont start, jumper cables, bad hope

Question
When I turn the key, there is a clicking sound (one click) but that is all. Replaced ignition switch, still only get the click.  Can start it with a screwdriver on the solenoid.  Checked wiring with a voltmeter and all seems OK.  I am stumped.

Answer
 Hello Nancy:

Jump the Soleniod Terminals (large batt post on Soleniod to large starter post on Soleniod). Use Jumper Cables. Take one Red End and Attach to the Battery Post. Take the Other Red End and Touch the Starter Post. *These are on the Soleniod.* If this Works to Start the Engine, then the Soleniod is Bad. If it doesnt, the the Starter is Bad. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
