Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman lawn tractor model 944.605090, craftsman lawn tractor, output shaft

Question
Hi, Thanks for the fast reply. It's a 5 speed Mechanical Driveaxle. I don't see anywhere to check a fluid level.
I have also noticed that on the left output shaft it has worn quite a bit on the gear case. Just out of curiosity is it easy to find a gear case for this age of tractor, I believe it was made in 1990, about how much would it cost to replace the drive gear ?
thanks....Larry

Question -
Hi,
I bought this used, works fine. How do I check/ add oil to the gearcase ? I don't see any place to add oil. Is it just a sealed case ? It has top and bottom halfs. There is a small fluid seepage between the halfs, I'll eventually have to replace the seal, is this a big job ?
thanks for any help.

 Hello Larry:

This Model shows Both the Hydrostat Driveaxle and Mechanical Driveaxle. Is this a Hydrostat Driveaxle? If it is I would suggest taking it to the Shop.

 Good Luck

Answer
 Hello Larry:

You can find a Few People Locally that may have a Replacement Transaxle. You can Put the Transaxle into Neutral and Remove the Shifter. Add about 1/2 to 3/4 of a Quart of 80w90 Gear Lube. Then Replace the Shifter. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck
