Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Governor, cross reference guide, adjustment screws

Question
Thanks for the reply. Can you recommend a different carb for this motor as I just went back and they don't carry rebuild kits for this "vector" carb.
thanks again,
Jack

Question -
Hi,
I got a used tractor with a Tecumseh 13.0 enduro xlc. I believe the carb is a diaphram. The local mower store said that this carb "is the worst that Tecumseh ever used" It can be difficult to start i.e. choke, no choke, low throttle, full throttle. Once it does start, it will run fine if I leave the choke knob pulled out a little. Otherwise, it will rev up and down. I have gapped the plug to .030 and it sparks fine. I put on a new fuel filter. My concern is initial fuel flow to the carb that has no mixture screws, and how to check or set the governor screw. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated as I have searched every book at the library and none have this type of carb listed.

 Hello Jack:

The Repairman was right. It is a Bad Carb. Setting the Governor isnt going to Solve the Problem. I have had Customers ccomplain to the point that I have had them Put a Different Style Carb on the Engine (one with adjustment screws). The Engine Reving up and down will Stop when the Carb is Fixed or Replaced. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 John

Answer
 Hello Jack:

All my Carb Numbers are over 7yrs Old, so they are no good. I will Look and see if I can get a new Cross Reference Guide as it seems from all the Carb Questions I am getting Im going to need it. If you ask the Parts Clerk, they should have a Listing for Replacements for your Model. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
