Car Alarms: my car alarm wont disengage, circuit city, best buy

QUESTION: my boyfriend is trying to install an amp to my car. when he disconnected the battery, my car alarm started going off. now he is unable to turn the alarm off and we cant touch the car without it going off. my car alarm hasn't worked in about a year. we tried the switch under the dash and nothing. the button on my key ring wont work either. how do we disengage the alarm or disconnect the alarm so we can drive the car.

QUESTION: what we did was put the key in the ignition and turned it to the "on" position. then we held the switch in for 30 seconds and then turned the key to off. but nothing changed.
