Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower wont start, oil and gas, screw

lawnmower won't start replaced sparkplug, oil and gas was sitting all winter in ny. when gas put in carborator turned over but immediately stopped. Did smoke when husband tried to start it other day. Any suggestions would be welcome to get it started. What else can we try?

Pushmower or Rider?  You definately have a carburator issue, I'm gonna assume that it has a fuel bowl.  If so- you need to buy a can of carb cleaner, drop the fuel bowl (one screw underneath) and liberally spray up into every hole you can find ESPICIALLY the one in the center that the screw goes uop into.
