Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine wont start now., fuel leak, fuel delivery

Question
Allen, I think you're right about the fuel delivery. Its only a one year old mower if I didn't mention that. I got to looking closer at the motor. The fuel seems to be leaking. I looked under the mower and there was a small puddle of fuel as well. It didn't look like the hoses were leaking so I removed the pump. For being a year old it looked 10! It was pitting and cracked in some areas, kinda like it was splitting apart. But it was gushing out, but it was wet, especially when starting. I didn't try to pour gas directly into carb as I saw the pump leaking first. When you try to start it really gets we there. I imagine if the pump is cracked it causing a vaccum leak and fuel leak prior to delivery to carb? What say you Allen?

Stores closed for the holiday. Can I try to reseal for now, do you think it would help troublehshoot?

Well buddy, thats what I've got so far.

Thanks for your help,

RonW

Answer
Hey Ron-
You got your gremlin!  LOL- that fuel leak is a sure sign of a failed pump membrane.  Fortunately kits aren't that expensive, (wait on the stores to open and buy a kit)and I think that will take care of your problem!
Lemme know how it goes !
