Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Pull cord ctops short of full pull, plastic pulley, starter clutch

Question
John:

Thank you for the reply.  It is a Honda HRR216.

I took off the blower housing.  The rope and plastic pulley seem fine.  Also the spring seems fine as well, it is still pulling off of the start mechanism anyway.  I tried to manually spin the starter clutch counter-clockwise but it will not budge.  What is it exactly that I should lube(WD-40?!).

One note yesterday it died on its own... just powered off like it had ran out of fuel... but the tank had just been filled and there was a lot of gas still in the tank.  Thanks again.

John,

My Honda Rotaty Mower's pull cord stops short of a full pull and doesn't even spin the motor.

 Hello Christian:

I really need the Model # if more information is required. Remove the Blower Housing(metal engine cover) containing the Starter. Check the Rope and Inside the Plastic Pulley. The Square Tower in the middle of the engine should turn free Counter Clockwise and Lock up Turning Clockwise. This is Call the Starter Clutch. If it is Stuck it will cause the Engine to Tear up the Inside of the Plastic Pulley and the Starter wont turn the Engine. I would say you are going to need a New Spring and a New Pulley. If the Starter Clutch is Locked up let Spray it with lubr at the Top and the Base until freed up.Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 John

Answer
 Hello Christian:

Are you able to take a Picture of what you are seeing and sending it to me? If you can the Let me Know. I have an Address for Photos to be sent. What does the Starter Mechanism Look like? If its the Square Tower I described, we're good. Im looking for the Repair Manual, but the Wife isnt here right now and she keeps the Books. Honda has Several Different Type of Starters for that Model Mower.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
