Why do the blades on my Craftman DLT 300 42 inch mower continue to spin when I have them disengaged?

 Hello Rex:

 If the Belt is the Proper one for the Mower then It would most likely be the Blade Pulley Brakes are Worn out. Bolted to the Deck next to the Blade Spindle Towers (Quill Assemblies). They Press against the Blade Pulleys when the Belt is Disengaged.  Hope this Helps.
