Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Self Propelled Lawn Mover, axle shaft, drive wheels

Question
The self propelled does not engage.  I have to push.

Most self propelleds have a small pulley above the blade underneath, with a belt running to a large pulley on the axle shaft of the drive wheels.  There is often an auxillary roller (usually plastic) on a lever that applies tension to this belt and causes it to drive.  The tension roller is connected to the lever on your push handle.
1- Empty the gas, flip the mower on its side.
2- Verify that the drive belt is ok
3- Inspect the tension roller for wear (this is usually the failure part).

Honestly Wayne- if you see a damaged part here- consider the 60-80 or more dollars it'll cost to have it fixed against a new mower purchase.  If you are mechanically capable and possess a decent set of tools, you can probably make this repair for 30-40$.  If your not sure- get a new mower.
Lemme know what you find!
