Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): dies when blade engaged, john deere mowers, old john deere

Question
Last year we dug the old John Deere push behind mower out of the garage for my son.  We took it to a repair center and they got it going but said the compression was low.  My son was able to use it last year but unable to start it this spring.  I got it started but when I engage the blade it dies.  It seems underpowered when idling.  Is this something that I could pursue fixing or is the mower not worth it.  I couldn't find the model # or engine make on the mower but did find the serial # TY14PBB415965 with code # FO22B.  Thank you very much for your time and attention.  Julie

Answer
 Hello Julie:

Ive Heard the Old Low Compression Thing Before. I have 2 John Deere Mowers that are one of the First ones on the Market.  Clean the Carb and Replace Parts with New Parts From Carb Kit.  If its Not Backfiring then the Valves are OK. It Sounds like Gas was Left in the Carb for the Winter. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
