Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Push Mower Blows White Smoke, crankshaft seal, compression ring

Question
Hello,

I took out my Craftsman 6.75 Mower for the first time this season and after one pass it start to blow out white smoke.
I stopped the mower and found oil ozing down my engine block and on top of my muffler. So much so that it collected on to the bed. It seems to be coming from the blower housing.

Before surrendering this lawn mower to Sear for repair, is there anything I can check first? Could this be a result of overfilling the oil? Before starting the mower I checked the oil level and it seemed to be right on the line.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Answer
 Hello Brian:

This one Needs the Shop. If the Oil was Coming out from under the Blower Housing, then the Upper Crankshaft Seal is Blown and that is Major work. Over Filling With Oil will Cause this, but so will a Cracked Compression Ring. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
