Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): jd 160 garden tractor question, garden tractor, lawn tractor

Question
I have a jd 160 lawn tractor.  When the blades are engaged they run fine (maybe) until they are put under a load.  Then they almost stall the engine.  We have to drive in first gear to mow the lawn.  Any ideas?

Answer
 Hello Mark:

It could be several things. 1- Remove the Belts from the Deck and Turn Each Blade by Hand. They should Turn with no Effort. You Should be Able to Spin the Blade like a Windmill. If Not you need to Replace the Quill Assembly that is Hard to Turn. 2- It could also be the Carb on the Engine is out of Adjustment. To Assist you in Adjusting  the Carb, I will need to know Make, Model and Engine Size. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
