Pontiac: a/c compressor, pressure transducer, core temp

Question
I have a 94 grand am with a 3.1 the compressor does not cycle it runs all the time when the a/c is on is their a clutch cycle switch or ambient temp. switch if so where is it located, is this a contionus run compressor? their is no low pressure switch to be found on the low pressure line or dryer i only found 1 switch on the high pressure line with 3 wires on it when i cross the switch out it kills the engine is the temp. compurter controlled. thanks

Answer
The switch that you crossed is the AC pressure transducer. It gives the computer direct info about AC pressures. When you jumped it you shorted a data line which is why it stalled.
There isn't a cycle switch on your car. It uses an expansion valve located on the evaporator core. It has a temp sensing bulb that that constantly reads the temp of the evap core. If the core starts to ice up, the expansion valve will start to close to slow down the flow through the core until it thaws out and then it opens back up to full flow again. If the valve closes as far as it can and the core temp is still too cold, it will shut down the compressor until it warms up.
