Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JS63 popping noise - runs for 5mins then stops, john deere js63, excess fuel

I have a John Deere JS63 that when trying to start makes a loud popping/banging noise _puffs some smoke from the exhaust.......then it starts and runs great for 5 minutes or so, then shuts down and is very hard to start.

Hi Rob,

Hmmm...A tough question.
I would look at:

Excess fuel leaking into the engine due to a leaking carb float.  Check for a wet sparkplug after it stalls.

A leaking exhaust valve.  (A compression test would confirm this.)

Late ignition timing.
