Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Pull Rope Starter, starter repair, pawl

Question
One of the two pawls and spring has come out of my Tecumseh Pull Rope starter mechanism.
How do I return it to it's rightful place with the least amount of disassembly?

You will have to remove the starter.  If you have the "metal pin" starter I'd recommend getting a new starter.

If there is a screw in the center of the starter you can remove it to gain access to the pawl.  You can insert the pawl but if it came out them I'm guessing something is broke.  You will have to inspect the pawl, spring and pawl cover.
