I purched it in 2002 new

Answer
 Hello Norman

Before I try to help I need to know if  the engine continues to smoke after running for a few minutes or did it clear up.

The line you mentioned is a Crankcase Vent.  If oil is coming from this line then it could be for two reasons.

 1.  The Crankcase Vent is bolted to the side of the engine block and may not be working properly. ( follow the vent tube from the breather to the crankcase vent.)

 2.  A broken/cracked Compression Ring.  This will cause the engine to blow oil into the Air Filter ny way of the crankcase vent. It allows too much compression to pass into the crankcase and blow oil thru the crankcase vent where it is sucked into the carb.

 Respectfully

 John
