Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): brake adj. riding mower, twin cat, brake pads


Question
i have a 1984 wizard twin cat 18 riding mower.runs good but doesn't want to stop.i put on a new drive belt,adj clutch so it releases the tension all the way,and adj the brake so that i only have a half inch play in the cable still when i press all the way down it takes about 8 feet to stop.the belt seems to stay engaged inspite of all the slack.it works half way down is clutch and all the way down is the brake.any ideas.thanks

 Have you checked/replaced the brake pads.  This is a common problem I see a lot of.  Check/replace the brake pads.  

 Also there is an adjustment for the brake pads on the Transaxle.  Make sure it is properly adjusted. If you need instructions on how to adjust the pads please let me know.
