Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman mower, mower deck, speed circuit

Question
Hello, i have a 17.5hp intek with 42 inch deck craftsman, i noticed a power loss when trying to ride in a higher gear and even more power loss when engaging the blades. since then i have changed the belts, oil, fuel filter, spark plug, gas, taken off and cleaned the carb. the mower deck belt was not oem but a generic size based replacement which seemed to hinder the blades from turning and was very wobley, i have put back on the worn oem belt. i have also adjusted the carb and it is running a little better.  it still looses alittle power in a fast gear but not nearly as much, if i engage the blades-it bogs down terribly almost to the point i can barely cut grass and moves very slowly. any suggestions. thx*  Matt

Answer
It sounds like the governor is not responding or the carbs high speed circuit may be clogged.

Check the governor arm, shaft and linkage.  Sometimes dirt/grime builds up around the arm preventing it from moving freely.

Let me know what you find.
