Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 265 Hydrostatic Drive Belt Replacement, john deere 265, hydrostatic drive

Question
I have a 1994 John Deere 265 garden tractor with a broken hydrostatic drive belt.  How can I find tips and info how to install the new belt?  I know I need to drop the mower deck and probably will have to raise the tractor on jack stands to access the underside of the mower.  How can I move/adjust the idler pulleys to get the belt on?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Ernie,

I don't know of any info to send or point you to.  You are on the right track though.  When you get to the underside of the tractor, it will be obvious.  The belt usually only goes on one way.  Pay attention to the rotation of the crankshaft and all pulleys and it will make sense.  If you need to move a spring loaded idler pulley, you might need a prybar or hook and a chain and maybe a helper.

Let me know how you make out.
