Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Homelite HB-180V Blower Runs Well Only By Pressing Primer Bulb, air leak, spark arrestor

Question
Thanks for replying so quickly, Eric.

No, the unit hasn't sat unused.  The condition started about a year ago, and I then notice some cracking in the fuel lines.

I installed the new fuel lines exactly the same way the original ones were installed.

The unit is about 8 years old.  It last ran correctly about 3 years ago, and the performance has diminished since.

Does a carb rebuild kit exist?  I have only seen cab replacements available online.  Would a cleaning and/or mixture adjustment help?  If so, how is the mixture adjusted?

Thanks again, Eric!!

Hi!

I have an HB-180V (VT 08010F) leaf blower which only runs well if I continually press the primer bulb while it is running.

If I don't, the engine runs at a much lower RPM, even with full throttle.

I had thought that the problem was due to small cracks in the fuel lines, which I replaced.  Unfortunately, this didn't help.

Thanks!

Has this unit sat for a while.  Because the fuel line had cracks then the carb parts may be also need replacing

Are the lines connected correctly?

How old is your blower?
When was the last time the blower ran correctly?
Let me know.
Eric

Answer
A carb adjustment may help.  You can try turning out the H and L needles about 1/8th of a turn.

If the adjustment doesn't improve the engine performance most likely the metering and fuel pump diaphragms need replacing.

You can purchase a carb kit from most small engine shops.  The kits come with all the parts you need, and a few you don't.  The kits are packaged to fit several different carb models.

Have you checked the muffler, spark arrestor screen and exhaust port to make sure they are not plugged up?

Is there any areas on the blower where it looks really dirty like oil or gas may be leaking?

Some Homelite units gaskets leak causing an air leak.  Sealing with gasket sealer, tightening screws or replacing the gaskets will improve performance.

Do you have a Walbro carb on the blower?
Let me know.
