Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 5hp. briggs and stratten engine, water in the fuel, plug hole

I have a 5hp. engine,that will not start unless I put gas in the spark plug hole. aft it runs about 5 mins then it will start by pulling the rope. thanks larry.

Hi Larry,

The carb most likely has dirt, debris or gummed fuel inside. You will need to remove the carb, disassemble it, clean all the small internal openings and blow it out with compressed air.   Probe each and every hole with a small wire.   Adding a carb rebuild kit wouldn't hurt either.  
Also check for water in the fuel.
