Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Older Sears Generator, sears craftsman, watt model

Question
I recently aquired an older craftsman generator not sure of the year, i'm estimating that it's about 20 years old.  The plate on the alternator showed (Sears Craftsman LR 3750 watt), model- 580 328910, serial- 0692940.  The only thing I could find on the engine (I think it's a tecumseh) was a sticker showing SHIBAURA gn30s no.026698.  It ran fine three or four years ago and has been siting since.  Now my question is what steps do i need to take to get it back up and running?  I have gathered that i need to clean and rebuild the carburetor and give it an oil change.  Now from there where do i go? Is there anything that needs to be done to the alternator?  Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Drew

Answer
Hi Drew,

As long as you have good spark, the ignition should be okay.  Just change the spark plug.
You are right with the other areas.  Change the oil, clean and rebuild the carb.  I'm sure it is gummed up.  Also flush the fuel tank and check the flow from it, to the carb.

Let me know how you make out.
