Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snow Blower Snow Flite Drive Belt Idler Pulley, spec spring, factory spec

Question
I also Have a snow flite. My Snowblower was working great the other day, all of a sudden i had no forward or reverse drive.
I opened it up thought that i broke a belt, both belts are in good condition the problem seems to be with the idler pulley, it just sits in there lose don't know if there is a missing spring or something else is broke. When you squeeze the drive handle it does bring the assembly toghether but there is no tension on the belt so the plate doesn't turn. Can you please help, Thank You, Scott

Answer
Hi Scott,

Most idler pulleys have a spring tensioner.  It may have broken and fallen off.  Look at the arm for a hole with a worn edge to confirm that one was present.  If so, replace it with the proper factory spec spring, if possible.

Let me know how you make out.
