Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Snowblower #111282-R 8hp 26inch, craftsman snowblower, speed jet

Question
I took the spark plug out and added fuel and my snowblower runs.  With the spark plug back in it doesn't run.  I think the problem is with the carborator.  Can you let me know what the jet settings are on this carburator?  Also, on the bottom of the float on the outside casing there is a jet, what is that for?  It seems to be for air regulating.  Is this correct?  What should it be set at?  I am sorry that I haven't given the age of this machine, but I have no idea how old it is.  The serial number is 490618 if that helps. Any information you can offer is greatly appreciated!
Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Blair,

The high speed jet on the float bowl is usually set at 1&1/2 turns out.  The low speed jet is set at 3/4 turn out.
If you can keep it running by squirting fuel or starting fluid into the carb's intake, then I would suspect a gummed or dirty carb.  You will then need to remove the carb, disassemble it, clean all the small internal openings and blow it out with compressed air.   Probe each and every hole with a small wire.   Adding a carb rebuild kit wouldn't hurt either.

Let me know how you make out.
