Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh engine 5 hp, point gap, electronic module

Question
Craftsman 2000 watt alternater. No spark at plug, plug sparks on other engine, replaced new condensor and new coil, points are clean and gapped .020. Checked coil with ohm meter 7.9 kohms through coil and nothing is grounded. I am stumped. Any suggestions?

Answer
You can check to make sure the points are opening and closing with an ohm meter and also make sure it isn't grounded.

Do you have any electronic modules lying around?  We keep an extra electronic module, the small general purpose ones, in the shop for testing old coils.

Try setting the point gap to .018, I had one do the same thing once and this fixed the problem.

Let me know if the gap fixes the problem.
