Land Rover Repair: 2000 LR Disc II Battery Replaced/Wont Turn Over, land rover specialists, land rover world

Question
Hi!

I have a 2000 Land Rover DII, the battery died completely 1 week after it had run out of gas on the freeway.  I drove it regularly between the 2 incidents.  It has been sitting for 2 - 2 1/2 weeks, and we have now replaced the battery.  It starts but won't turn over now.  1 more detail:Have never used the autolock feature on the key it only worked sometimes and other times we woke the dead w/the alarm going off when we first purchased the car, since then opting to manually lock/unlock, purchased as a fixer upper, other issues take priority.

I was given 3 scenarios: 1)Alarm/Security Reset 2)Spark issue 3#(most $$, I'm sure)FUEL PUMP

My question/s: Is there an indication that I can check to definitively say it's the Security Problem? If so, and it is the Security... Can you offer the Land Rover for Dummies version of how to reset it myself? #for example i can identify the battery but not the alternator in a line-up)
Thank you, I appreciate the help

Answer
You could pull a spark plug wire and check for spark when cranking.  If you have spark, you do not have a security lockout.  If you do not have spark, the issue could be security, crank sensor, coil failure, or a number of other possibilities.

You can test the fuel pump for power at the pump and pressure at the engine.

Given your stated level of skill, you would probably do best finding a good mechanic.  The problem in the Land Rover world is that special training and diagnostic tools are needed, and there are not very many Land Rover specialists.
