Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower will not start, jumper cables, handy man

Question
Hello,

I have a CRAFTSMAN riding lawmmower that will not start. It will turn over maybe once. Almost seems like the engine is stuck?

I took it to a lawnmower handy man- he said it needs a new engine?

It has new belt, battery.

Thanks for the help.

Answer
Hi Cesar,

You may have one or more problems.  The engine may be seized and needing replacement.  Try cranking it over without the plug/s installed.  If it cranks quickly with the plugs out then the starting system may be weak.  If it doesn't crank then either, the engine may have internal damage.  Try boosting it with jumper cables from a car battery, directly to the starter.  Once you get it to crank we can deal with a starting/running problem if it exists.

Let me know what you find.
