Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Fuel Filter, sears weedwacker, fuel leaks

I have a Craftsman/Sears weedwacker model 358.798150-32cc. How do i install a new fuel filter in the gas tank.Should it lay loose in the bottom of the tank or is it forced into the fuel line hole in the bottom of the fuel tank? When i put it in the hole fuel leaks out.

I've seen it done both ways. If the fuel line is bad you pretty have to order one from sears for that trimmer.

I have installed different fuel line but had to modify the hole in the tank...I would recommend getting the correct fuel line and install the filter inside the tank, laying on the bottom.
