Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman riding lawnmower wont start, float bowl, fuel flow

Question
Hello,
Last week my son left our craftsman riding mower (rear engine) out in the rain exposed.  Now when I crank it over, it turns over, but won't catch to start.  any ideas?
Thanks, Daniel

Answer
Hi Daniel,

You will need to determine if the problem is a lack of spark or a lack of clean fuel flow.  Remove the spark plug, reconnect the wire and lay it against the engine head.  Pull the engine over and watch for spark at the plug's electrode.

If good, then the carb might have water inside.
Drain the fuel tank and the float bowl.  Refill and try to start.  Use starting fluid sprayed into the carb's intake if needed initially.

Let me know how you make out.
