Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman leaf bloer, throttle plate, accelleration

Question
HI Mike,

Im having problems getting my craftsman 32cc leaf blower model # 358.797922 to remain running once started.  The blower used to not start at all so I cleaned the filter inside the tank, changed the fuel, rebuilt and cleaned the carb (new diaphram, gaskets).  The Blower now starts but once it does the rpm,s increase until it dies out.  There are 2 adjustments on the carb one is an idle adjust that just moves a lever that adjusts the throttle plate and second is labled "mix" and I started with that 2 turns out.  Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting and am I using a good starting point with the adjusting screws?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,

The mixture screw should be set at 1 & 1/2 turns out initially, then adjusted to give good accelleration and power.  If it still quits, try squirting fuel into the carb and try to keep it running.  It that helps, then I suspect a lack of fuel flow.  It could be the carb, a crankcase seal leak or poor compression.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
