Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): rider lawnmower wont charge battery, kohler engine, charge battery

Question
I have a 2000 craftsman rider with a 15.5 kohler engine that won't charge the battery.  I put a new battery in and after a couple of weeks it went dead.  I jumped it and it started and ran for the job but after refueling it wouldn't turn over.  I think the charging system is bad and/or there is a short.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  (jumping always starts it)

Thanks--scott

Answer
Hi Scott,

Yes, I agree. I think the charging system is faulty.  You could check the charging output which usually comes from the starter.  If no output voltage, you will need to get it repaired.  The inline diode or rectifier may be at fault.

Let me know how you make out
