Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan riding mower, hp briggs, brake lever

I have a Poulan (17.5 hp Briggs and 42" deck) anyway its a couple of years old and now it lurches when I ease off of the brake. This is a brake/clutch combo, right? can i adjust it and how. Thanks.

Usually the pulley that is connected to the clutch/brake lever is adjustable.  Loosen the pulley nut and slide it back and fourth to adjust the tension.

Have you checked the belt?  It may be worn and causing it to grip too much.  Are the transaxle/frame mounting bolts tight?
