Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower no start, orange wire, safety switch

Question
1 year old 4.5 horsepower crafstman gas mower would not shut off. started fine but when released the start lever it wouldn't stop so I had to manually shut it off with the lever by the engine. saw a orange wire attached at the spark plug area running under the "flywheel" that wasn't attached to anything else so attempted to access but couldn't... when I put the covers etc back on, it wouldn't start at all? Please help I know virtually nothing... Thanks

Answer
Hi Jesse,

When it would not shut off, the safety kill switch may have gone out of adjustment.  Trace the handle cable, down to the switch and check it.
Now that it won't start at all, check that same switch and you might find that it is stuck closed or the orange wire that goes to the coil under the flywheel may need to go the the safety switch.

Let me know how you make out.
