Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): green machine weedeater, flywheel, screwdriver

Question
I have a green machine weedeater & can't get any spark to the plug, i took it apart & cleaned the flyweel& coil & reset the gap between them,( i have tried different settings), changed plugs still no fire . when i put a screwdriver in the sparkplug boot& pull the cord it will shock me , but it will not fire the plug.is there any way to check the coil, if so how? also what is the gap for the coil between flywheel. I tried .010.012&.015 & still not enough fire for the plug . any ideas ...thanks  Ray

Answer
Hi Ray,

The coil gap should be .012.  If you get a GOOD shock with a screwdriver, then it should spark the plug.  Provided that plug is grounded well on the head and if the plug is good.  If still no spark, then the coil is probably weak and needing replacement.

Let me know how you make out.
