Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower Engine Gas/Smoke, oil consumption, push mower

Question
Murray push mower suddenly began using way too much fuel a couple of days ago, and yesterday white smoke began coming from the engine.  No sputtering or coughing, it runs fine. Is this a problem with the carb?

Answer
Hi Will,

If it is using more fuel and smoking, then I would say the carb is letting too much fuel through.  Usually this would result in poor running.  You could try closing the carb's jets a bit.
White smoke is more of a common condition with burning oil.  You could also check the oil consumption and the compression.

Let me know how you make out.
