Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Echo SRM-230, fuel stabilizer, exhaust port

Question
I have an Echo SRM-230 weedeater and I am beginning to have my first problems with it after 2+ years.  I noticed last friday that it was running hot and not at full power.  So, over the weekend, I took it apart and cleaned everything, changed the fuel, fuel/air filters, and spark plug.  I took it out monday and it worked great (still slightly under full power) for about 10 minutes, and then bogged down again-eventually just dying.  Now when I squeeze the trigger, it bogs and the head won't even spin.  I think it has something to do with the carburetor,  but I have no idea how to take it apart and clean it.  I would rather learn how than to put it in a shop for over a week.

Thanks!
Seth

Answer
Do you use fuel stabilizer in your fuel?  This will help extend your carb and fuel system life.

Try turning the carb adjustment needles out just a little.  No more than an 1/8 of a turn.  Do you have limiter caps on the adjustment needles?

It's possible that the carb gaskets are getting old and brittle.

Try the adjustments first and while you are at it I could clean the muffler spark arrestor screen, the muffler and exhaust port...you will have to remove the muffler to perform cleaning.

Let me know what you find.
