Hyundai Repair: 07 Hyundai Sonata timing chain problem, timing chain cover, hyundai sonata

Question
I have the same problem with the timing chain at start up, described by a previous individual with the 06 model. I mentioned the noise during the initial test drive and was told it only happens when the A/C is on at start and is the nature of the car.  It sounded reasonable because I previously drove another 06 Sonata and noticed the same.  After purchasing the car only days ago, I revisited the issue with the dealer and they agreed to fix the problem, however they are telling me the motor will have to be dropped.  How concerned should I be about the lasting quality/reliability of this vehicle after undergoing what seems to be major surgery?

Answer
Hello Arthur,
First of all , do not be concerned about lasting quality. This timing chain problem is some what common on 06 and early 07 sonatas. It is caused by timing chain tensioners. Once they replaced, problem solved, no worries. And no need to drop the engine. Removing intake surge tank and timing chain cover will give enough room to change them. All Dealer technicians are well trained to do that type of job.
